POETRY- I THINK......

Poetry, I think, is one thing human beings are fond of right from the origin of civilization. It has been a part and parcel of every civilization. In fact, even before the development of scripts or rather languages, this has been a taste of people throughout the world. While discussing poetry, first question arises what poetry is?

But actually I am not a literature student so I dare not define it. Frankly, trying to define poetry is a useless enterprise. Poetry is the creation of meaningful beauty or beautiful meaning by words, which thus both create and express who or what we are. in fact, there is no limit to the subject matter of poetry, whatever our human heart and mind can contemplate or brood over or entertain is fair game like life and death, love and god, sex and marriage, even destruction of Bamian in Afghanistan or depression in the USA .In nut shell, poetry is art used to enjoy great popular appeal.


I believe that a poet is dormant in every human being or at least some poetic connoisseur traits. But some of us of course and of course myself .to enumerate some inclusively (not exhaustively) got flair of jotting down ones pent up thoughts in the form of poetry.Further, in addition to this some people get poetry as innate quality but some may acquire that later at any age. I would rather say that nothing is impossible at any age as far as poetry is concerned.For being a poet things required are a good knowledge of language rather a rich vocabulary, selection of proper words, imagination power, inspiration from one’s milieu and nature as well.


Knowledge of literature will enhance your prowess at poetry but I do not think it to be mandatory. What thing which matter is thinking in poetic way. In highway engineering, there is a PIEV Theory .I modify that theory in poetry context as Poetic Perception, Poetic Intellection, Poetic Emotion and Poetic Volition. Well my emphasis is always on emotion and imagination. Emotion is soul of poetry and imagination inculcates thrilling and romance in poetry.


Gulzar, my favorite poet has a great imagination quality. You listen to his songs and you will find metaphoric imaginations in galore multiplying the beauty of songs many fold .I would like to quote a few lines from Mausam, A Gulzar movie.

“ जाड़ों की नर्म धूप और आँगन में लेट कर /आँखों पर खींच कर तेरे दामन के साए को /औंधे पड़े रहें कभी करवटें लिए हुए /या गर्मियों की रात जो पुरवाइयां चले /ठन्डे सफ़ेद चादरों पर जागें देर तक /तारों को देखतें रहें छत पर पड़े हुए . ”


So, poetry is an essential ingredient of our society. In fact poetry always has been a relevant medium of expression. There is a great deal of things on its relevance to share with you but let it at any other time.

INDEPENDENCE DAY

Hi, Friends!
On the eve of the Independence Day I convey on you my best wishes. HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY Six decades have gone since we got independence from the yoke of English rule. We are a rapidly growing economy in the world. We managed ourselves to be almost free from the effect of global regression. Yet, the scenario is not in the mode what was expected and what was our goal described in our preamble to the constitution.

My biggest concern is the mammoth gap between the two sections of society often termed as India and Bharat. Some are affluent and living a lavish life style, on the other hand some are living (rather creeping like creatures) in miserable conditions. For them the enormous challenge is just to make their both ends meet. This is really an agonising factor for us that just less than ten percent of us are holding more than ninety percent of the wealth of the country. Though abound in resources, poor country is India, this perturbs me a lot. Where are the values and targets for the social justice, economic justice and political justice...etcI would give a simple example whither Indian socialism is going. An honest Indian Revenue Services officer shall earn just 1.8 Cr rupees in his entire service ( if I assume his average salary 50000/-per month for thirty years ) on the other hand there are many Shahrukhs , Tendulkars ,Mayavatis, Ambanis who pays Income tax every year many fold the entire life time earnings of IRS officer. ShahRukh Khan is the top taxpayer among actors; he paid Rs 34.2 crore as income tax in 2007-08 and came at number 13 among top tax payers. Similarly, Akshay Kumar with Rs 13.5 crore as income tax ranks 40th in the list, on the other hand cricketer Sachin Tendulkar with payment of Rs 8.8cr as tax has been ranked at 81 in the top-200. Aamir Khan paid Rs 4.72 crore to ITI am frightened to imagine the situation of forlorn poor fellow citizens. Friends, you just spare few momentous moments of you busy life and mull over on such burning issues our country is pierced with.

I request you to go through a poem of APSD “FAATIHE PAR” In this poem he has tried to raise the concerns of India on footpath pavements. Any way .......plethoras of things are to share with you ...but ... it’s enough for now.... I shall be immensely satisfied if I had raked even a single neurone of your brain....

कविता -'फातिहे पर'
शाम ,
डूबते सूरज ने देखी थी
मेरे चूल्हे पर
पतली पतीली में हलचलें ,
आवारा कुतिया की
आस भरी ताकती नज़रें.
रात को ,
फटे कम्बल में झांक कर
मेरी घरवाली का मैला जिस्म
चाँदनी में देख कर
कुटिल चाँद मुस्कुराता है .
मेरा बच्चा अपनी माँ के
शुष्क स्तन से
रक्त के दूध में बदलने की आस
में ममता की
आखरी बूँद चूसता है .
इधर कारवां कारों का
गुज़रता रहता है मुसलसल
कांपता रहता है
ठण्ड में ठिठुर कर
मेरे बोझ को ढापता कम्बल .
श्रीमान , मेरा घर
सड़क के हाशिए पर है
और मेरी रूह
मेरे जिस्म के फातिहे पर है .
